FAIRVIEW NEW HOMES ACQUIRES FORMER BRENTWOOD BLOOD CENTRE

Fairview New Homes has completed the purchase of the former Brentwood Blood Centre in Essex, which has been earmarked for residential development.

The Enfield-based housebuilder snapped up the 3.7-acres site on an unconditional basis from Homes England, with a price in excess of £7million.

Fairview is now drafting proposals to build 86 new homes on the land and will begin work on the development in 2020 if plans are approved by Brentwood Borough Council.

Located off Crescent Drive, the centre was closed in March 2015 after the NHS Blood and Transfusions board deemed the hub surplus to requirements.

The site currently comprises the vacant main blood centre building, associated workshops and former car park as well as approximately 0.5ha of green space and woodland, which is protected by the greenbelt.

Rhys Davies, Land Director for Fairview New Homes, said: “Despite testing conditions across the property market in the south-east, our teams have been extremely busy securing key sites in order to transform them into attractive residential developments.

The former blood centre has been vacant for more than three years and our planning team will now work closely with Brentwood Borough Council to ensure we provide a development befitting of the town and the local residential area.

Essex holds a lot of potential because of its close proximity to London and transport network, so we are naturally very pleased to purchase our third site in the county this year.

With the heavy demand on housebuilders to create more homes, we are always continuing to seek opportunities to acquire further land as part of our long-term strategy to deliver much-needed housing.

With more than 50 years’ experience, we have a proven track record of purchasing land without any unnecessary delays. We often look for sites deemed suitable for between 50 and 1,000 homes on brownfield or greenfield land and given our planning expertise, our preference is to purchase on an unconditional basis.”
