Housebuilder's donation helps scouts to carry on camping
Buntingford Scout Group has received a cash boost from housebuilder Fairview New Homes as it aims to raise funds for much-needed new camping equipment.
The group has been busy fundraising to help pay for new tents to replace its ageing kit, and Fairview, who are building a community of apartments and houses at its development The Village, located in the town, has donated £500 to the cause.
The Scout group currently has more than 120 members, ranging from six to 14-years-old, and hosts up to 10 camping trips each year for its Beavers, Cubs and Scout sections, including a large camping trip in the summer for all its members and their families.
Jo McNamara, who has been the group’s scout leader since 2003, said: “Camping plays a vital role in our activities as a group and at the moment we have a lot of old, broken camping equipment and mismatched canopies.
“This can make our camping kit very difficult to use and sleeping in the tents uncomfortable, so we’re delighted that Fairview has been kind enough to lend us a helping hand in replacing our equipment.
“Fairview’s donation will go a long way to providing our group with more durable tents and we hope to have them in time for our holiday camp in June.”
The Buntingford Scout Group holds meetings every weekday on Bowling Green Lane for its various clubs.
Andy Georgiou, Sales and Marketing Director at Fairview New Homes, said: “We are always looking for opportunities to support the communities in which we build, and the Buntingford Scout Group has provided a positive environment for young people in the town for many years now.
“We’re proud to be supporting the Scouts and wish them luck with their ongoing fundraising endeavours.”
Fairview is currently building two and three-bedroom apartments and houses at The Village, off London Road, with prices starting from £260,000 for a two-bedroom apartment and £340,000 for a two-bedroom house.
Fairview’s Sales and Marketing Suite and showhomes open daily between 10am and 5pm at The Village.
